Get the most out of your trip to Jamie’s

Going to a flea market is fun, but it’s so much better when you take home a great haul. Whether you are an experience flea market shopper or this is your first trip, there a few things to think about that can make your excursion successful.

  1. Make a list of things you’re looking for. Are you missing something vintage or kitsch to add some spark to your home décor, vinyl records, collectibles, dishes? Don’t forget to check prices beforehand.
  2. Arrive early for the best finds, although vendors may be more willing to slash prices at the end of the day. Jamie’s is open 8am-4pm Wednesday and Saturday, all year, rain or shine.
  3. Make a budget & bring cash, especially smaller bills. Many vendors take credit cards, but most prefer cash. There’s an ATM in the Center Building at Jamie’s if you need more cash, but it can run out of money on a busy day.
  4. Plan how to carry everything. A large tote is helpful, and some people bring a wagon. Don’t forget to come in a vehicle large enough to get your haul home if you’re looking for furniture or larger items.
  5. Be friendly when you negotiate. In general, flea market transactions are win-win. You need it and the vendor no longer does. It’s normal to bargain, but do it in a way that doesn’t offend the seller. Remember, they are there for the shoppers, but also to enjoy the family-friendly atmosphere at Jamie’s.
  6. Make a budget beforehand. This can help you (sound credible) when you negotiate and when you’re not certain if you really want something.
  7. Ask if you don’t find what you’re looking for.Jamie’s office staff can usually direct you to the right vendors, but don’t hesitate to ask the vendors. They are knowledgeable and sometimes offer to keep an eye out for a special item you need.
  8. Plan ahead and check Jamie’s event calendar [link]. Jamie’s attracts an extra-large outside vendor crowd on days when special events are held which is always good when you are treasure-hunting.
