$5000 to go to emergency student support
Continuing a family tradition of giving back to those in need, the Mock sisters, owners of Jamie’s Flea Market donated $5000 to the Lorain County Community College. The funds are targeted for ARC, the college’s Advocacy and Resource Center, which supplies emergency support to students in need. ARC services range from emergency loans and aid grants, to the commodore cupboard and closet, technology and mental health assistance. From September 2023 through April 2024, ARC funding made it possible to help close to 3000 students.
Jon Logue, Director of Development at the LCCC Foundation was on hand on the 50th anniversary celebration of Jamie’s Flea Market to accept the generous donation. He explained the importance of the ARC funding; it serves primarily to ensure that the pursuit of education isn’t derailed by unforeseen events that might prevent a student from attending classes and remaining enrolled. This type of assistance and guidance particularly resonated with the Mocks, who are themselves beneficiaries of college financial aid programs.
Logue thanked the owners of Jamies’ and reminded the audience that Lolita Mock had been a long-time supporter of LCCC. The Mock daughters inherited the 50-year old flea market from their parents, Ralph and Lolita, who purchased it in 1983.
